Inverclyde Now Logo CYCLING — Riders In Action On Cloch And Georgetown Courses

31 July, 2018 | Local

SEVEN riders took part in the 10th race of this year’s Alex Hunter summer time trial league.

Conditions were dry and warm with only a westerly breeze to consider out on the course. As well as good weather, the riders also enjoyed a super smooth stretch of new tarmac on the outward leg on Cloch Road, which will make the course a few seconds faster.

Good times were recorded but it was Paul Symington who took the victory with an excellent time of 29:57, more than a minute clear of his closest rival.

Results

1 Paul Symington 29:57

2 Derek Robinson 31:23

4 Tam May 32:18

5 Robert McCready 33:36 (Road bike)

6 Danny McLaughlin 33:46

7 Mark Smith 34:12 (Road bike)

With road works on the Cloch and A78 causing plenty of disruption, a few local riders have been attending the Georgetown time trial to keep the legs tuned for racing. The short 7.5-mile race heads out towards Houston along the Georgetown road and turns at the roundabout for the grind to the finish line.

Conditions for the 48 riders attending the race on Wednesday 25 July were dry and warm with a headwind on the outward leg. Matt Hennon was the highest placed of the five Inverclyde Velo riders, crossing the line in fifth place in 15:43. Alex Hunter also attended to help out with time-keeping duties.
