Inverclyde Now Logo CYCLING — Alex Hunter Time Trial And Inverclyde Velo Update

4 July, 2018 | Local

TEN riders took part in the eighth race in the Alex Hunter Summer Time Trial league.

Conditions were dry and warm but they were faced with a blustery head-wind on the outward leg.

Two personal best (PB) times were recorded by newcomers Brian Wallace, shaving 21 seconds of the previous week’s time, and Tom Cardiff, chipping a huge one minute and 25 seconds also off the previous week’s time. This was a brilliant effort from both riders given the less-than-ideal conditions.

The race was won with an excellent time of 29:20 by Paul Symington who continues to dominate the points league. Paul has been enjoying a run of solid race form this season thanks to a high volume of hard training and will be looking to continue setting fast times and gather the points to secure the 2018 summer league title.

In open racing, Inverclyde Velo were off to Millport to compete in the Tour of Cumbrae. This sporting event, aimed at all levels, consists of a nine-mile time trial round the island and the 1.4-mile hill climb. Conditions for the 66 riders were dry and cool, but a strong south westerly made for a fast start but a tough return leg round the far side of the Island. Kevan McCartney was the highest-placed Velo rider in 11th, with an excellent time of 21:20.
