Inverclyde Now Logo CYCLING — Father And Son Personal Bests In Alex Hunter Time Trial League

THIRTEEN riders took part in the fourth Alex Hunter Time trial league event, racing on the 13-mile course.

Conditions for the event were ideal, warm with only a slight westerly breeze giving the riders a tailwind finish.

Plenty of fast times were recorded with another personal best for Paul Symington, chipping six seconds of last week’s time. The race was won by Scott Newman for the second week in a row, crossing the line in 29:41.

Race number five attracted 15 riders who enjoyed more dry, warm weathere with only a westerly breeze giving them a headwind out round Cloch Road.

Two personal bests were recorded, by father and son Rory and Arthur McMillan. Rory also won the race crossing the line with a superb time of 29:29, the fastest of the year so far.

New riders are welcome at the time trial, every Tuesday on Cloch Road, Gourock just after McInroy’s Point, and every Thursday for the APR (Australian Pursuit Race) along at the Gantock flats in Gourock. Both events start at 7pm. Anyone using Strava can check out the route using the “Cloch Time Trial” segment.

There are also Inverclyde Velo group rides — on Wednesday evenings, meeting at the Co-op on Eldon Street, Greenock at 7:45pm, Saturday mornings at 7:55 and Sunday mornings at 9am, at Hunter Place, Greenock. The routes are usually posted on the club website forum under “training rides”.
