Hughenden 191 for 4 (25 pts)

Inverclyde 141 for 5 (3 pts)

INVERCLYDE lost out to Hughenden in this WDCU Division Three Match played at Gourock Park on Saturday, but were in the driving seat for much of the game and were unfortunate to only pick up three points in defeat.

Bowling first in the damp conditions, Inverclyde’s opening bowlers gave the home side a good start with three wickets in the initial overs.  Gareth James bowled Gilani with his first ball in the second over then bowled Tervet in the fourth over. Paul Singh then trapped Khan leg before to leave the visitors at 29 for 3 after 10 overs. Bond then rescued the visitors’ innings with an undefeated 76, well supported by Khan and Holland. The score moved to 100 for 3 after 28 overs, but Inverclyde could not capitalise on this potentially winning position, with only one further wicket falling when Scott Campbell held the catch off Stewart Blair to dismiss Khan. The visitors’ innings closed after 40 overs with the total on 191 for 4. James finished with 2 for 26, Singh 1 for 33, Blair 1 for 53, while Allan Bryden bowled well in his six overs on his debut.

Inverclyde’s reply began positively with captain Dave Cooke and David Thomson putting on 49 in good time until Cooke was caught for 26. Campbell and Thomson took the score to 63 until Campbell was bowled in the 19th over. Thomson was batting well and brought up his 50 with two fine sixes as he increased the run rate, but was bowled for 64 at 120 for 3. Stuart Callison (15 not out) and Billy Hair (6 not out) remained undefeated as Inverclyde’s innings closed 50 runs short at 141 for 4.
