Glasgow South 221 all out (8 points)

Inverclyde 208 for 7 (2 points)

INVERCLYDE just failed in their run chase against Glasgow South in their Western District Cricket Union Division Four fixture at Hamilton Palace on Saturday.

Glasgow South won the toss and batted first but Inverclyde made an early breakthrough when Ross Blair caught and bowled Aamir in the fourth over.

Scott Campbell trapped Ashraf leg before wicket for 16 but Khan and Aqeel had a fine partnership until Aqeel was bowled by Cammy Gunn, in the first of his impressive six-wicket haul, helped by good catches by Ally Haw and Scott Campbell.

Haw also picked up Khan’s wicket for 78 when Blair held a good catch at deep mid-wicket. Ashraf hit some late runs before becoming Gunn’s sixth wicket as Glasgow South were bowled out in the 40th over for 221. Gunn took 6 for 44 in 7 overs, with good support from Blair, Haw and Campbell with one wicket apiece.

Inverclyde’s opening batsmen, captain Dave Cooke and Cammy Gunn, batted positively from the start and the opening partnership reached 140 when Cooke was bowled by Shaaikh. Campbell and Gunn added another 50-partnership until Campbell was run out for 35 at 192 for 2, but the run-rate had moved higher.

Church, Johnstone, Blair and Mudie added useful runs but Gunn was caught for 75 trying to increase the pace as Inverclyde finished 14 runs short of victory with their innings closing on 208 for 7 after 40 overs.

Inverclyde skipper Cooke was disappointed at his team falling short in a game in which the opening partnership had given the possibility of victory, but was pleased with the effort during the match.
