Bees 232 for 8

Inverclyde 110 all out

INVERCLYDE lost out to a strong Bees side in this Western District Cricket Union Division Four match played at Gourock Park.

It was no surprise that the visitors opted to bat first in the dry and sunny conditions, and their good opening partnership was only broken when Paul Singh bowled Bees captain Hart for 20 at 45 for 1. However Singh struck quickly again when Sinha was caught behind by David Mudie. Craig Watson then had Rauf caught by Scott Campbell for 24 with the visitors at 60 for 3 after 15 overs.

However Ameen then had a fine knock which only ended when Singh took the catch at gully off Ally Haw’s bowling. Cammy Gunn and Billy Hair each picked up a wicket, and Singh had a sharp run-out but Ameen’s innings allowed the visitors to reach 232 for 8 in 40 overs. Singh took 2 for 49, Watson 2 for 55, with Haw, Gunn and Hair picking up one wicket apiece.

Inverclyde openers were faced with an accurate bowling attack and found runs hard to come by. David Mudie was stumped at 20 for 1, and in-form Cammy Gunn was caught trying to pick up the pace. Local captain Dave Cooke batted well but was run out for 27 at 50 for 5.

Haw also batted well to take the score past 100 but the visitors’ impressive bowling attack accounted for the lower order and the innings closed when Haw was bowled for 20 as Inverclyde were bowled out for 110 in the 35th over.
