THREE runners celebrated milestones at Greenock parkrun — including one who only took up running in her 60s and now completed 100 parkruns.

Margaret Mary McEleny was delighted to earn her century parkrun t-shirt on Saturday. She started running with colleagues by completing a beginner ‘Couch to 5k’ fitness programme.

She completed her first parkrun in June 2016 and, over the past three years, the five-kilometre runs on the Esplanade have become a regular feature of her routine.

Liz McAuslan completed her 50th parkrun. She has completed 35 runs at Greenock over the past five years as well as visits to parkruns around the UK. Liz has also volunteered 16 times in various roles.

Kevin Roper — on his first visit to Greenock -– also entered the ’50 club’. Kevin is a regular runner at Sherwood Pines Forest Park parkrun in Mansfield.

The 270th Greenock parkrun welcomed 125 runners, joggers and walkers including six first-timers. Six returning runners improved their times — Elaine Anley, Phil Melvin, Mark Sullivan, Jenni Hemphill, Tony Day and James Campbell.

Elsewhere, 10-year-old Erin McEleny — who has completed 70 runs at Greenock — has spent the summer visiting other runs in the West of Scotland to try her pace against different courses. She was delighted to complete the Linwood course on Saturday in 23:59 which was enough for her to achieve the age category record.
