YOUNG athletes from Greenock Glenpark Harriers produced competitive performances at the Scottish Athletic Indoor League at the Emirates Indoor Arena, Glasgow.

Erin McEleny, Summer Taggart, Ruari Trainer, Leo Beaton, Cameron Crawford and Islay Newsome represented the Harriers in the under-13 age category.

Islay was first into the arena, to contest the 60 metres, the shortest of all athletic races. Islay was off at the gun, running well, to record her first time over the distance. She followed this with the shot putt, which she launched well to gain good points for the team awards.

Summer tackled the sprint hurdles over 60 metres with vigour and was not put off after clipping hurdle two. She ran smoothly to finish strongly. In the 200 metres, Summer had lane six and coped well with the steep angle.

Erin recorded a new best time over 800 metres and will benefit from the experience of the four-lap event indoors. She also contested the long jump competition, enjoying landing in an internationally-recognised sandpit.

Ruari recorded a fine 60-metre performance before he contested the long jump, finishing with good points to add to the team total. Leo created a lifetime best time for the 800 metres setting himself a quality time to target for the remaining indoor competitions.

In his 60-metre hurdles, Leo showed natural talent, finishing second.

Meanwhile, Cameron launched the shot putt toward the seven-metre line, placing himself as one of the best of the day. Cameron concluded the day racing 200 metres, recording a fine silver-medal position.

The club thank coach Andy McLean, parents and supporters for managing, helping and encouraging the team .
