ATHLETICS — New Year Sprint Success For Young Glenpark Runner

YOUNG ‘Harrier’ Harris Morrison celebrated a double in youth races at the New Year Sprint in Musselburgh.

Harris, representing Greenock Glenpark Harries, contested the 800 metres first at the 150th staging of the event.

A steady start over the initial 400 metres had Harris following the leading group into the final 200 metres before gradually increasing pace to move into close contention for the top places.

Entering the home straight, Harris unleashed a sprint finish that saw him overhaul the leaders and open up a gap to claim a convincing victory in the first youth event of the day.

Just 10 minutes later, Harris stepped on to the track for his 200-metre heat and, despite the short recovery time, secured entry to the final with a fine run.

In the final, a determined Harris accelerated to top speed hitting the home straight in the lead and, despite older athletes chasing him down, Harris showed maturity to hold technique and claim his second victory of the day.
