SCOTLAND were victorious in the recent Celtic Games International Athletic Competition — with local athletes Georgia Morrison and Scott Hannaway playing their part in the victory.

Both athletes were selected for the long sprint, 400 metres. Scott and Georgia performed with distinction in their individual races to secure valuable placings. They recorded times near their own lifetime bests.

In the 4 x 400-metre relay, both raised their game. Georgia was on the third leg for Scotland and, after being handed over behind Ireland and Wales, she set off conservatively adapting to the blustery conditions. As she reached the home straight, Georgia found an extra gear and began hunting down the Welsh athlete who was coming into range with every stride. As she approached the baton change-over area, Georgia managed to pass on to her anchor leg in second place, a position held to the finish.

Scott in his 4 x 400-metre was the lead-off runner. After cruising through 200 metres, Scott injected pace finding himself in the top two placings going into the home straight. With his normal steely determination, Scott handed his baton over in contention for the lead which was maintained, ensuring Scott made his trip to the podium to collect his award.

Both runners now focus on their national and British championships in the coming weeks.
