INVERCLYDE Goliaths kick off their drive toward to National League this Saturday (7 July), 1pm, at Parklea Pitches in Port Glasgow, against the Highland Stags.

The Goliaths are hoping the community will cheer them on as they begin their associate process with a re-match against the Stags following a win up north last year.

The team needs to complete at least five games, two away and three home fixtures, under strict rules and parameters, to be granted entry to the 2019 British American Football League. They would join the Division Two Scottish Conference which currently houses Dumfries Hunters, Aberdeen Roughnecks, Clyde Valley Blackhawks and West Coast Trojans.

All the players have been working hard for the last few months at Fort Matilda, preparing under the tutelage of head coach Martin McClintock and his team, hoping to continue last year’s unbeaten record.

Player Kevin McAdam said: “The whole team is itching to get out on the pitch for a competitive game. We know we are ready for this and we are ready for the league. These games are our chance to prove that. We go out to win, every single time, and we have a squad capable of doing that. We are also always looking to add to the squad.”

The Goliaths train every Thursday at 7.30pm at Fort Matilda.

The non-contact Comets train same place and day, at 6.30pm.

For 10 to 18-year-olds, Phoenix train alongside the Comets on Thursday.

For youngsters, two to 12-year-olds, Ducks train n Sundays, 11.30am at Fort Matilda from August.
