UPDATE From Inverclyde And District Boys' Brigade

2nd Gourock Dedication Service

The 2nd Gourock Company joined with the other youth organisations and the congregation of St John's Church for the annual youth group parade and dedication service on Sunday morning. Fine weather, a good turnout from all the groups, a welcoming church and a lively service conducted by the Rev Dr Johnston McKay all contributed to a successful morning of worship together.

Prior to the service, the new recruits to the Company Section had their photograph taken next to the BB Anchor in the church grounds. The youth organisations and church thank the officers of Police Scotland for their support on stewarding and traffic control during the event.

1st Greenock's Activity Weekend

Boys from 1st Greenock Junior Section enjoyed a weekend at the activity centre in Dalguise, Perthshire. They were blessed with good weather which made a huge difference. They took part in various activities including canoeing, archery, zip-line, challenge course, giant swing, 75ft tree climb and orienteering.

Evening activities included ambush and Robot Wars which the boys attacked with great enthusiasm. The boys had a fabulous time and are already asking if they can go back next year.

2nd Port Glasgow Hill-Walking

The 2nd Port Glasgow Senior Boys started the new session with a series of excursions on the hills around Inverclyde. So far they have completed their first two walks; one over Port Glasgow Moors in heavy rain and the other through the moors above the Greenock Cut that allowed the boys to climb Dunrod Hill and three other surrounding hills. The latter walk took place on a beautiful night that gave the 12 boys and three officers great views of Ailsa Craig, Arran and Goat Fell as well as up and down the Clyde towards Glasgow across the moors and lochs. The boys are now looking forward to tackling a further two walks in the coming weeks; one on the West Highland Way and the other up the Cobbler. A walk around Greenock Cut has also been organised for this year's Primary Seven boys as part of their recruit training.
