INVERCLYDE Street Pastors At 10th Anniversary Parliament Event

INVERCLYDE Street and Rail pastors Janette Miscandlon and Chris Jewell travelled to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh for a special debate put forward by MSP Murdo Fraser celebrating the 10th anniversary of Scottish Street Pastors.

Local MSP Stuart McMillan, pictured, centre, with Janette and Chris, paid tribute to the initiative as well as Angela Constance, Cabinet Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities.

The debate was followed by a reception in the Parliament building which include speeches by Murdo, Angela, the Rev Les Isaac, founder of Street Pastors in the UK, Jimmy Jones from Police Scotland and Sandy Scrimgeour, chairman of the Ascension Trust which is responsible for Street Pastors in Scotland.

Street Pastors started in London in 2003 and there are now around 20,000 operating throughout the UK in more than 300 towns and cities every weekend bringing practical help to those out in the night-time economy and in need of support.

This includes Inverclyde, which operates Street Pastors weekly in Greenock and Gourock and also the recently introduced Rail pastors on local trains.
