COACH Collides With Pedestrian On A8 At Port Glasgow

A COACH collided with a pedestrian on the A8 westbound in Port Glasgow.

The accident happened around 3.50pm (Monday) beside the Gourock Ropeworks building.

The westbound side of the road was closed while police investigated, leading to major rush-hour traffic disruption.

The pedestrian, a 45-year-old man, was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital, with suspected head injuries.

Sergeant Laura Stewart said: "Following assessment his condition has been described by hospital staff as non-life-threatening. He remained in hospital overnight for observation."

All westbound vehicles were being diverted up Clune Brae. There were also delays eastbound because of the congestion at the roundabout.

The accident involved a coach carrying passengers from cruise ship Caribbean Princess which had berthed at Greenock for the day.
