THE five-kilometre Greenock parkrun course has been completed in under 15 minutes for the first time.

Ross Gray of Inverclyde AC set the new record of 14:57, five seconds faster than the previous best time.

A spokesman for Greenock parkrun said: “All the volunteers at the finish line couldn’t quite believe it when we saw Ross appear in the distance with the clock still showing 14 minutes!”

Running conditions on The Esplanade were perfect for the 148 parkrunners on Saturday morning.

There were 27 personal best (PB) times recorded. Eighteen runners were running for the first time at the weekly timed event.

Second over the line was Neil Lafferty who took two seconds off his previous best from last week, with a fantastic time of 16:12.
