SOCIAL enterprise organisation Stepwell has confirmed that its cafes have permanently closed.

Stepwell operated the Fresh outlets in the Oak Mall, Greenock, and Kempock Street, Gourock, which have been closed for months because of the pandemic.

In a statement on social media, the organisation explained: “Like many other companies in the hospitality industry, Covid-19 has had a huge impact on our business over the past six months.

“We closed our Fresh Coffeehouses in March prior to lockdown coming into effect as a safety precaution for our customers and team and continued paying our staff their full wages prior to the Government’s furlough scheme being announced.

“All of our team have been kept on furlough throughout this period and this will continue until the end of October.”

It continued: “It is with great sadness however, after looking at the viability of re-opening during the current economic climate, we have made the very difficult decision not to re-open our coffeehouses.

“We would like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty and support over the past 10 years, you have been absolutely amazing and your messages received over the past few months mean a great deal to us.

“We would also like to thank our wonderful team who made Fresh what it is, they gave our customers a huge welcome at each and every visit and we wish you all the very best for the future.”
