FAMILIES have been left saddened after it was announced that Funworld and Laser Matrix in Greenock will not be re-opening.

Management at the centre in Fort Matilda Industrial Estate said it was with great sadness that they had decided the facility would cease trading.

They confirmed on social media: “The impact that coronavirus has had is something that none of us could have seen coming and, as the crisis has deepened, it has become clear that we would be forced into taking the very difficult decision not to re-open.

“As you can imagine we’re devastated by this and Funworld has been a massive part of Inverclyde for over ten years.

“We know how sad many of you will be with this news as hundreds of thousands of children have come through the doors over the years and some of those children even went on to bring their own kids here.”

The statement continued: “While we are very sad at this difficult decision, we are deeply conscious of the health and wellbeing of our young customers, their families and our colleagues.

“Your collective health and safety is absolutely paramount to us and it’s really no longer possible to safely operate an indoor play area on the scale of Funworld.

“We’d also like to thank the wonderful staff who’ve worked here and we’re all very grateful to everyone who has played a part in Funworld’s success over the years.”
