Inverclyde Now Logo MOVIE Magic Still On Offer At Greenock’s Waterfront Cinema

LOCAL MSP Stuart McMillan is encouraging people to enjoy big screen entertainment locally over the October break.

Greenock’s Waterfront Cinema is not subject to the new Covid-19 restrictions that have been introduced across the central belt.

The venue, part of West Coast Cinemas, is offering a wide range of movies, both old and new, to satisfy cinemagoers of all ages.

Stuart said: “The Waterfront Cinema has introduced numerous measures to keep customers safe during the Covid-19 pandemic since reopening on 30 July.

“Online booking is being encouraged to support the Track and Trace programme, and they have staggered show start times to allow more time between screenings for enhanced cleaning and to reduce crowds.

“After the news broke recently that Cineworld and other UK cinema chains are closing or reducing their opening hours, putting thousands of jobs at risk, it’s more important than ever that we show our support for our local cinema.

“I know that the Scottish Government’s new restrictions have further limited what people can do over the October break, but the Waterfront Cinema is open and it is a safe place for families to enjoy the big screen together.

“A range of movies both new and old, as well as screenings of theatre and concert performances, are on offer at the Waterfront over the coming weeks and months, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“Going to the cinema is escapism at its finest –- a chance to sit back, relax and be transported to other worlds. During lockdown many people missed this simple pleasure, and so this is an opportunity to fall back in love with the big screen, right on our doorstep.”

John Cunningham, David Shaw and Stuart McMillan

David Shaw, owner of the Waterfront Cinema, said: “Of course, running any business right now is tough, but my philosophy at the moment is to just keep the doors open. You can’t do anything when they’re shut.”

John Cunningham, general manager at the Waterfront Cinema, said: “We were delighted to welcome Stuart to the Waterfront and highlight the changes we’ve made to offer a safer cinema experience for customers during this pandemic.

“Since reopening, we’ve had to get creative with our offering as many new movie releases have been delayed.

“Despite showing older films and offering films series over several weeks, including Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, with the Twilight Saga on show next, we have been heartened by the response from customers who are enjoying reliving the experience of seeing these films on the big screen.

“Customers are required to wear a mask throughout the cinema unless they are exempt, but they can remove their mask in the screens to eat, which has encouraged more customers to purchase food and drink.

“We pride ourselves in being a local cinema that offers more than just big blockbuster films. We are continuing to offer our Fun Film Club on a Saturday morning, where all tickets are £2.50.

“We look forward to welcoming customers during the October break, and know that the community will continue to support us in the months ahead as we all try to navigate our way through this pandemic.”

Carys Knox, marketing manager of West Coast Cinemas, said: “We want to make sure as many people know what we have on offer, people can keep up to date with us on social media and through our mailing list.

“There are lots of exciting campaigns being launched in the next few weeks -– so keep your eyes peeled.”
