MOTORIST Allegedly Tried To Evade Police Patrol

A DRIVER allegedly sped off so dangerously from police in Greenock that officers stopped pursuing him.

A patrol tried to stop a silver Skoda car on Mearns Street at 9:40pm on Wednesday after observing occupants acting suspiciously.

The driver allegedly refused to stop and was initially pursued but police called off the chase because of the danger posed to the community.

Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “Officers conducted enquiries and traced the car and 54-year-old driver a short distance away.

“He was arrested for alleged road traffic offences and held in custody for court.”
