MORTON have been fined and risk a one-match reduction in capacity at Cappielow following an incident at a fixture.

The Greenock club has highlighted unacceptable behaviour at two recent games.

Objects were thrown onto the pitch by a small number of supporters at Stenhousemuir.

In a statement, Morton warned: “Such actions are unsafe and in breach of the SFA rules. Following a notice of complaint, the club has received a fine of £500 (with £250 suspended) and a suspended reduction in capacity at Cappielow if a similar incident occurs at a future Scottish Cup match (50 per cent of uncovered standing at Cappielow c.1,285).

A small number of supporters were involved in unacceptable conduct following a match at Arbroath.

The club stated: “Following a Police Scotland review, two individuals were identified and will now receive club bans, with further action being considered by Police Scotland and the procurator fiscal.”

It continued: “Greenock Morton is a club built on respect, community and pride. Passion must never cross the line into unacceptable behaviour.

“The overwhelming majority of Morton supporters represent the club impeccably and contribute positively to our matchday experience. However, even isolated incidents can bring significant consequences, from financial penalties to reduced attendance, increased policing costs, and most importantly, risks to safety.”
