COUNCILLOR Stephen McCabe has been reappointed Inverclyde Council Labour group leader following the party’s success in last week’s elections.
All nine Labour candidates were elected, leaving Labour as the largest group on the 22-member council.
Councillor McCabe, who represents Inverclyde East, will now be his group’s nominee for the position of council leader at the first meeting of the new council on 19 May.
He has served as Labour group leader since 2003 and council leader since 2007 apart from a six-month break in 2011.
Councillor McCabe said: “I am pleased once again to have the unanimous support of my Labour colleagues to serve as their group leader.
“I will now begin formal negotiations with the other groups within the council to secure support for another minority Labour administration in advance of the statutory meeting of the council on 19 May.
“I want the new council to be as inclusive as possible with meaningful roles for all groups and individual councillors.”
