POLICE had to put on full protective clothing when a man they were arresting allegedly told officers that he had Covid symptoms.

The 20-year-old was being apprehended on a warrant at an address on Drumfrochar Road in Greenock on Monday morning.

Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “On being arrested, the male allegedly stated to officers that he had Covid symptoms and as such the Covid procedures were followed including full personal protective equipment.”

The male later allegedly confirmed he didn’t have symptoms and had said it to avoid being arrested.

He will be reported to prosecutors for alleged obstruction.
