
A 31-YEAR-old man has been charged with attempting to murder of a police officer in Greenock. He is then said to have tried to escape arrest by fleeing in a boat.
During the early hours of Sunday, calls were received reporting concern for a man in Greenock. Officers traced a male in the East India Harbour area where a disturbance took place, an officer was assaulted and the man made off in a dinghy. He was arrested at Rhu Marina near Helensburgh.
The officer received treatment for a stab wound at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow where he remains in a stable condition. Police Scotland initially said the officer had been allowed home.


The suspect is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court today.
