A MAN allegedly tried to assault police officers who were called to a report of a male acting suspiciously.
The incident happened on the Esplanade in Greenock around 8pm on Saturday.
Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “As the officers approached the male, he allegedly ran off before turning and throwing punches at the officers.
“As a result, he was restrained and arrested.”
The 47-year-old will appear at court on a later date.
Inverclyde’s area police commander Chief Inspector Paul Cameron said: “It is completely unacceptable for police Officers to be assaulted simply because they are doing the job we have asked them to do.”
