A MAN was arrested for allegedly trying to con an elderly woman and, in a separate incident, is also accused of grabbing money from two boys.
Police were contacted regarding a report of a bogus workman at a vulnerable pensioner’s home on Sir Michael Street in Greenock at 12:15pm on Saturday.
The man had allegedly requested money to fix a door which had nothing wrong with it but a carer arrived and challenged him and he made off.
A few hours later, police received a report that a man had approached two 14-year-old boys on West Stewart Street in Greenock and grabbed money from them before making off.
Police traced a suspect who was allegedly found in possession of the money plus a substance believed to be cannabis and a number of white tablets believed to be Valium.
A 28-year-old man was charged in connection with both incidents and held in custody to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court.
