MAN Allegedly Attacked Police Officer And Made Off By Boat

A MASSIVE police response was launched after man allegedly attacked an officer in Greenock and fled across the Clyde by boat.

Numerous units attended in the area of East India Harbour and also at Helensburgh this morning (Sunday).

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 31-year-old man has been arrested.

“From 2.05am, we received calls reporting concern for a man in Greenock. Officers attended and searches were carried out.

“The man was traced in the East India Harbour area where a disturbance took place, an officer was assaulted, and the man made off in a dinghy.

“The officer received treatment at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and has since been discharged.

“The man was subsequently arrested from a dinghy at Rhu Marina near Helensburgh. Inquiries are continuing.”
