RIVER Clyde Homes is applying to build more than 200 flats and houses at the former St Stephen’s High School site in upper Port Glasgow.

The housing association is submitting planning applications for 226 dwellings — 170 flats and 56 houses — for social rent.

A document included with the applications states: “The aim of the development is to provide much-needed homes to the area through the provision of a variety of house types and sizes to cater for the diverse requirements of the community.”

The flats will have one or two bedrooms and will be in three or four storey blocks. The houses will be in terraces or semi-detached.

The applications are pending assessment by Inverclyde Council planning department.

St Stephen’s High moved from the Southfield Avenue site into the joint school campus in Kilmacolm Road when it opened several years ago.
