Inverclyde Now Logo MAJOR Housing Development Proposed For Greenbelt Land At Kilmacolm

A DEVELOPER is hoping to build nearly 80 houses in fields on the edge of Kilmacolm.

Mactaggart & Mickel Homes Ltd has submitted a planning application seeking permission in principle for residential development at Kilmacolm Meadow, at Quarry Road, at the northern edge of the village.

If approved, a further detailed application would be required but an indicative masterplan is provided which indicates that the five heactare greenbelt site has capacity for about 78 houses. A quarter of the houses are required to be ‘affordable’ under planning policy.

Mactaggart & Mickel say the properties could be completed by 2023/24.

A design statement submitted to Inverclyde Council argues: “The land at Quarry Drive offers an opportunity to allocate a suitable and appropriate site to help address housing need, and given the site’s strong connections with existing community facilities, for the proposals to create a successful and sustainable place.”

The company has set up a website to give residents information about the proposal.

The application is pending assessment by planners.
