CARE home manager Annabelle Stewart has retired after 38 years, following the closure of Sir Gabriel Wood’s Mariners’ Home in Greenock.

Annabelle was the longest-serving member of staff in more than 100 years at the home –- and the second-longest serving member in the 170 years it was open.

She joined the home at the age of 33 and worked her way up to the position of general manager in 2020.

The home, which closed last month, was operated by international maritime charity Sailors’ Society.

Chair of trustees Peter Swift said: “Admired and respected by staff and residents in equal measure, Annabelle’s vocational dedication was second to none and nothing was ever too much trouble.

“She takes with her many fond memories of the hundreds of residents she has cared for over nearly four decades.”
