RECORD-Breaking Cruise Ship Returns To Greenock

GREENOCK is today (Monday) hosting the biggest cruise ship ever to come to the Clyde.  

The 330-metre long vessel MSC Virtuosa has returned to the Ocean Terminal having first called at Greenock in 2021.

The ship will be departing on a 12-day cruise to Iceland and Norway, finishing at Southampton.

Monday’s visit is the ship’s only trip to the Clyde this year. Small cruise ship Le Champlain is also at the terminal today.

MSC Virtuosa has gross tonnage of 181,500, nearly 10,000 more than MSC Meraviglia, which was previously the biggest cruise ship to come to the Clyde following trips here in 2018. MSC Virtuosa is around 40,000 tonnes bigger than Queen Mary 2, another previous record holder.

The ship has 2,420 cabins, 19 decks and total capacity for 6,300 passengers, and 1,700 crew.

It features an indoor promenade with restaurants and shops and five pools, including one of the biggest and most intricate waterparks at sea.

MSC Virtuosa arrived at Greenock around 6am and is expected to leave at 6pm, although times often change at short notice depending on various circumstances.
