INVERCLYDE Sports Legend Award Goes To Athletics Stalwart

GERRY Gaffney was honoured at Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards for his services to local athletics.

He received the Legend award at the event at Greenock Town Hall.

Winners in nine other categories of sport, for activities and successes in 2023, were also recognised at the ceremony, which was hosted by Clyde 1 radio presenter Amber Zoe.

Gerry has been involved in athletics for more than 55 years, his lifelong passion for the sport starting when he was a young teenager.

He represented Scotland, and as an older sportsperson, has won gold and silver medals. He has been president of Inverclyde Athletics Club and in other management positions. Under his leadership, the club has received many accolades including the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services.
