THE Clyde is set to host elements of major UK-led multi-national training mission Exercise Strike Warrior, with navy ships starting to arrive next week.

One of the largest military exercises of its kind in Europe, it will run from 8 to 20 May with a some of the participating vessels departing from west coast ports.

Port visits will be kept to a minimum because of the pandemic, however ships are expected to arrive at Clyde Naval Base at Faslane, King George V Docks, Glasgow, Hunterston and Fairlie before joining the exercise.

Ten nations will take part, bringing 31 warships, three submarines and 150 aircraft and approximately 13,400 military personnel including 1,500 ground troops to military ranges across the country and to maritime exercise areas off the north and west coasts of Scotland.

The participating nations will be the UK, USA, Denmark, France, Germany, Latvia, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Australia.
