THE Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club held their opening cruise of the season.

More than 40 pf the Greenock club’s members set of from the Esplanade beach in blazing sunshine and calm waters for an idyllic outing, taking in the sights of the Ocean Terminal, James Watt Dock and sugar-boat “Captyanis” wreck, before heading to Ardmore Peninsula and landing at Roseneath for lunch.

Vice-president Allan Downie, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves on the water after a wet and windy winter. Being on the water gives you a whole different perspective of the area, and makes you appreciate what amazing surroundings we have on our doorstep. We had our usual close encounters with dolphins and seals too, which is always a delight.”

He added: “We’re a really friendly, inclusive club, with a busy schedule of social and sporting activities. We also organise adventures further afield: there’s so many amazing places to explore.

“New members are always welcome, and we offer ‘come-and-try’ introductory sessions to anyone interested. No experience or equipment is necessary. so it’s a cheap and easy way to try something new. Whether you want to compete in events, explore the wilderness or just relax and experience the joys of being afloat, there’s something for everyone.”

The club offers kayaking, rowing, dinghy sailing and open water swimming. Anyone interested can contact the club via secretary@rwsabc.com or 07920 381372 for more information. | Club website
