HUGE crowds turned out for fun in the sun at the 2023 Comet Festival in Port Glasgow.

The annual event took place at Coronation Park on Saturday (24 June 2023) with visitors enjoying various stalls, funfair, inflatables, live music, children’s activities, dancing, birds of prey, and food and drink tents.

Opening the festival were new gala king and queen Cooper Deegan and Jessica Wilson, who are both pupils at Newark Primary, accompanied by Provost Drew McKenzie.

Provost McKenzie said: “It was a truly wonderful day and great to see so many familiar faces and many new ones as well.

“The Comet Festival has been for as long as I can remember a firm and favourite fixture in the Port Glasgow and indeed the Inverclyde events calendar.”

He added: “I was delighted to help open the event and welcome the new gala king Cooper and gala queen Jessica and they were a credit to themselves, their families, and their schools.”

The event was organised by the Comet Festival Committee with support from Inverclyde Council.
