Kyle Johnstone, Simon Okiti and Harris Morrison

GLENPARK Harrier junior trio Simon Okiti, Harris Morrison and Kyle Johnstone were on fire at last weekend’s Scottish Athletics Joint League match at Grangemouth.

Simon was first to represent the Harriers on the track in his 200-metre race.

An electric start saw Simon close the stagger on the athletes on the lanes outside him. Once in the lead, a controlled last 30 metres allowed Simon to hold his form and cross the line victorious in a new lifetime best of 22.81seconds, his first sub-23-second run.

Immediately after Simon’s race, Harris competed, fresh from helping Clydeview Academy, Gourock, to the Scotish Schools 4 x 400m relay title two days earlier. He decided to drop down from 400 metres to test himself over the shorter distance of 200 metres.

After an aggresive, determined start Harris utilised his 400-metre power to storm round the bend, cutting the stagger of all athletes outside him to be leading into the home straight. Harris claimed first place in a new best for him of 23.14 seconds.

Kyle competed in the 1500-metre race. During a mature first 800 metres, Kyle sought a bit of wind protection before accellerating ahead of his competition with 500 metres remaining.

Hitting the bell for the last lap, Kyle struck for home, working hard down the back straight. He dug into his deep reserves of endurance on the final 100 metres to stop the clock in a new best of 4.37 minutes.
