‘I FELT More Secure On Cruise Ship Than In Supermarket’

PORTONIAN Aileen Stoddard enjoyed a holiday on the huge cruise ship visiting Greenock today and says she felt safer from covid than when she’s shopping.

Aileen and her parents had a British Isles trip on MSC Virtuosa earlier in the summer. They had hoped to join it from Greenock but pandemic restrictions meant they had to travel to Liverpool.

More about MSC Virtuosa

Aileen said: “The ship is very covid secure. Everyone was double vaccinated, we got a test before we boarded the ship.

“Temperatures were taken at least twice a day. If you went a tour you had to do the ship’s tour and stay within the bubble.

“You had to wear masks on throughout the ship and on your bus. You got temperature taken leaving the ship and going back on ship.

“When you got off the bus it was a quick photo stop and back on. You had hand sanitiser at the bus door. They used a 56-seater with only about 24 on board.

“I actually felt more secure on this holiday than I do walking around a supermarket and would go back on it again.”

Aileen added: “This was my first cruise although my parents have done a number of cruises.

“I had heart failure last year and because of the pandemic I haven’t been going out much. When we saw this holiday advertised we thought it was ideal for us.

“Once on board the ship it was amazing both in style, staff and covid safety was well above anything I have seen locally.

“The only down side was I couldn’t sail from Greenock and sail down and up the River Clyde. Hopefully one day I will get that chance.”
