A HOUSING association has lodged detailed proposals for 44 flats on the site of the former Highlanders’ Academy in Greenock.

Sanctuary Housing want to build two four-storey blocks containing a mixture of one and two-bedroom flats.at the site in Mount Pleasant Street.

A design statement submitted with the application states: “The proposed development will be stepped to create three main levels — an upper level which relates to the existing street level at Dempster Street; a lower level which relates to the existing levels on Wellington Street and a mid level parking court area, which will be accessible from Mount Pleasant Street.”

The proposal is pending assessment by Inverclyde Council officials. The school was demolished earlier this year.
