WET and windy conditions didn’t stop 107 people turning up at the Esplanade for Greenock parkrun on Saturday.

The event five-kilometre event marked International Women’s Day by having a full female volunteer roster pictured above. Fifty-one of the participants were female.

Sixteen first-timers took part and there were 12 personal best (PB) times recorded, among them the first male and female finishers.

Gillian McGale, above, left,, who was last at Greenock parkrun in 2018, crossed the line in her best time of 22:44. The first male was Stephen Trainer who finished in 15:41.

Two runners celebrated parkrun milestones. Oliver Reilly ran his 50th parkrun; 45 of them have been at Greenock. Oliver set his PB for the course in January this year with an impressive time of 17:25.

Gordon Hepburn completed his 100th parkrun, doing them all at Greenock. He also set his PB in January this year, 18:22.

Finisher number 22, Sean MacFarlane couldn’t keep hold of his timing token and it blew away into the Clyde.

He later took his daughter and a fishing net on to the beach in a valiant but unsuccessful attempt to get it back.
