GREENOCK Demolition Crew Find ‘Egyptian Mummy’

THE former Babylon nightclub is starting to give up its treasures — with a colourful ‘Egyptian mummy’ rescued from the premises today.

The building on the corner of West Stewart Street and Argyle Street in Greenock town centre is being knocked down to make way for housing.

The mummy was recovered intact and propped up outside in all its glory.

Its fate, and that of any other ‘artefacts’ discovered, is not clear.

The building opened in 1914 as the BB Cinema and was altered in 1935. It later became a bingo hall and finally a nightclub in the 1990s.
