GREENOCK Coastguard Recruiting Rescue Officers

GREENOCK’S Coastguard team is recruiting volunteer rescue officers.

The unit is made up of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds who respond to various types of incidents around the Clyde coastline, from Wemyss Bay to Glasgow

It has been called out to around 140 emergencies so far in 2020.

Emergencies range from people in the water and stuck in mud, vessels in distress, searching for missing people, and ordnance and medical incidents.

Team members are trained in various skills including water rescue, mud rescue, advanced first aid and pyrotechnic and ordnance response.

Applicants must be over 18, stay or work within 10 minutes of the team’s base at Greenock Fire Station, have availability during the working day or at night, hold a current driving licence and be physically fit. Those applying will be subject to a criminal record background check.

Candidates must complete a full medical and be available to attend initial training in Greenock from Monday 12 April to Friday 16 April 2021 and the weekend of 1/2 May 2021.
