WORK to install a hi-tech £250,000 traffic light system to cut delays on one of Inverclyde’s busiest routes is due to start next month.

The project involves the A770 corridor between Greenock and Gourock.

The Inverclyde Council scheme is being paid for by Strathclyde Partnership For Transport.

It is described as the “design and installation of signals and technology systems to create a ‘green wave’ and reduce travel time and congestion, particularly for buses”.

Council officials state in a rpeort: “Improving the traffic signal linkage is programmed to start in February.”

The A770 has traffic lights at several major junctions — Brougham Street/Grey Place at Patrick Street; Brougham Street/Eldon Street at Campbell Street. pictured; and atCardwell Bay, with an additional set due to be provided at the Grey Place/West Blackhall Street intersection.
