Inverclyde Now Logo GOUROCK Golf Club Tee Up Plan To Help More Women Take Up The Sport

GOUROCK Golf club will be running its successful Women Into Golf initiative again this year.

The club is keen to see more women take up the sport and has plans in place to help with expert tuition and equipment.

Organiser Morag Cowe said: “We ran this programme last summer and we were delighted with the response with more than 20 ladies attending the weekly indoor sessions and at the end of the summer 14 ladies signed up and joined the club.

“The programme for 2019 will see free weekly Thursday night coaching sessions during the whole of May and June in our indoor studio.

“The ladies can then progress to the next stage of the programme which includes expert coaching from our PGA Professional Derek Watters, splitting into groups led by existing members to play on the course, assistance with equipment and clothing, and informal social evenings for the ladies to get together.

“This second stage only costs £25 per month and ladies can sign up for this at any time during the period 1 April to 30 September. We hope we can build on the success of 2018.”

Agnes Reaich, pictured, right, and Carol Hurrell joined the programme in 2018 and progressed from the weekly indoor coaching sessions to the stage where they are now playing the course a number of times every week.

Carol said: “Agnes and I took full advantage of the coaching that was on offer last year and we were greatly helped by pro Derek and the existing lady members who at the early stages acted as guides on the course.

“We were made to feel very welcome. We continued playing right through the autumn and winter and we are really looking forward to the new season starting. “I would encourage anybody who is interested to contact the club and give it a go.” Ladies who are interested or wish more details can contact club secretary Carol Anderson on 01475 631001 or secretary@gourockgolfclub.com.
