WHINHILL Golf Club held the finals for the seven matchplay competitions held throughout the season
This brought to a close the five single and two doubles competitions that have been so well supported over the summer, with most members taking part.
The prestigious Churm Trophy was won by Hugh Speirs, who defeated Paul Martin. This was Hugh’s fourth victory in this event, a testament to his longevity as a very fine golfer at the club over the years.
Myles Gallacher claimed victory in the Auld Yins’ Tassie over past Whinhill captain Robert MacDonald.
Paul McCarn defeated John Deafley in the Anniversary Trophy. Stuart Coils had an excellent victory over nine-time club champion John Donald.
James Jordan took the spoils in the strokeplay event, the Peter Graham Trophy, against Frank McLellan.
The team of Barry Jackson and Brian Blacklaw got the better of Brian Dobbin and Gary Sinnamon in the Boyd (Greensome)
Trophy.
Brothers Denis and John McCabe won the McInytre (Fourball) Trophy in their final against the father-and-son team of Tommy Francis and Tommy Francis (Jnr) – this being Denis’s second victory in a row in this event with a different partner.
Whinhill Golf Club thank David Ellis and Chris McDiarmid for their tremendous efforts during finals day and over the course of the season in the organisation of the matchplay competitions.
