THE T O’Neill Open tournament was played at Gourock Golf Club with 126 entrants, including a healthy number of visitors from local clubs.

Scoring was low thanks to the four-ball, better-ball format and the course being in excellent condition.

In joint third place were two home pairings — Jimmy Anderson playing with Gordon Hanlon and Iain Bannister and his partner Gordon Baynes with both pairs scoring an impressive nine under par, nett 64.

Andrew MacPherson and Robert Clark have both been displaying good form this season and they accumulated 11 birdies in their round with no bogeys, resulting in an 11 under par score of 62 with their split being 30 on the front nine and 32 on the inward half.

Taking first place however were local father-and-son pairing of Joe and Murray Gillan who also shot 62 but, with a split of 31 on each half, they won the event on the basis of the better inward half.

Joe and Murray did not get off to the best of starts with a bogey six up the par five first hole but, once they got in their stride, there was no stopping them with no fewer than three eagles being recorded at the 6th, 15th and 16th holes.

It was this storming finish over the last few holes that saw Joe and Murray over the line.

Gourock Golf Club committee and members are grateful to Clyde Injury Clinic for sponsoring this event.
