GOLF — Inverclyde Golf Hold Annual Team Contest

29 September, 2021 | Sport

GREENOCK Golf Club were crowned Inverclyde Golf’s 2021 Team Champions.

They triumphed in the contest involving 12-man teams from the four golf clubs in Inverclyde which was held this year at Gourock.

The competitors were treated to a course set up in great condition on a dry day.

The format sees 12 four-ball, better-ball matches with each club playing two matches against the other three clubs.

The 2021 event ended up a ‘two-horse’ race between Gourock and Greenock, the difference between them coming in the head-to-head matches between the clubs, with Greenock winning both.

Greenock finished with five points from a possible six, with Gourock one point behind.

Organisers thank the clubs — especially team captains Barry Higgins (Gourock), David MacFarlane (Greenock), Steven McLeod (Port Glasgow) and John Donald (Whinhill) — for fielding teams in the event.

Inverclyde Golf thank Allan Warwick and all (especially the greenkeeping, professional, bar and catering staff) at Gourock Golf Club for hosting the event.
