PORT Glasgow Golf Club hosted the 2023 Inverclyde Golf gents’ strokeplay scratch and handicap open competition.
Stephen O’Kane (Scratch) of Gourock Golf Club and Jim Rennie (Handicap) of Port Glasgow Golf Club were crowned winners.
The tournament has been running since 1976 and is held at the four Inverclyde golf clubs on a rota basis.
Eighty-five golfers took to the course which was set up in great condition thanks to Jim McCurdy and his staff.
In the scratch section, Stephen (who had previously won the scratch event in 2015) pipped Steven Higgins of Gourock Golf Club, helped by birdies at the 14th and 15th holes and courtesy of a better score over the last six holes after both had returned scratch scores of 74 with level par back nines.
Steven McLeod of Port Glasgow Golf Club took third place with the same score of 74, edged out of second on the better inward half (BIH).
In the handicap section, Jim won by three clear shots after producing an excellent round of 76 (two steady halves of 38) scratch, for a nett score of 63 with a birdie ‘2’ at the 8th hole the highlight of his round.
James Devine and David Tolan both of Port Glasgow Golf Club secured second and third places respectively thanks to better inwards halves.
Inverclyde Golf thank all at the Port Glasgow Golf Club for organising the event.
