Robert Bell, Whinhill Golf Club captain, presenting the trophy to the 2019 Inverclyde Golf Veteran Champion of Champions, Iain McPherson of Port Glasgow Golf Club.

WHINHILL Golf Club hosted this year’s Veteran Inverclyde Golf Champion of Champions event.

The event featured the 2018 veteran champions from Gourock Golf Club (Colin Erskine), Port Glasgow Golf Club (Iain McPherson) and Whinhill (Paul Meechan) with the veteran champion of Greenock Golf Club (Neil Delussey) unable to attend because of work commitments.

Unfortunately the weather was pretty brutal throughout the day and scoring was really tough.

The title is decided by an 18-hole strokeplay round, with the best nett score being declared the winner. Iain McPherson triumphed with a fighting nett score of 75 — a total that would normally be considered average, but, given the conditions endured on this particular day, was a very fine score.

Colin Erskine finished a shot back for a runner-up spot in this event for a second year running with Paul Meechan a couple of shots further back making for quite a tight contest all in.

Colin’s effort in making the trip down from Aberdeen to play in the competition was very much appreciated by all at Inverclyde Golf.

Inverclyde Golf thank Whinhill Golf Club for hosting the event.

The match was played in an excellent sporting manner and mutual respect between the competitors was evident.
