INVERCLYDE planners have approved proposals for a flats development with roof garden in the West End of Greenock.

Marturano Homes Ltd have been given permission to build a five/six-storey block at an overgrown gap site on Houston Street.

There will be 22 flats for rent, six with one bedroom and 16 with two bedrooms. There will be 22 parking spaces.

A design document included with the proposals stated: “The site, formerly home to a large warehouse has been vacant in a state of steady decline for many years.

“It’s current visual impression is poor with security fencing presented to the street and unkempt vegetation filling the plot.

“This proposal seeks to generate a much needed resource of flats available for rent as well as a building that can be considered a positive addition to the town.”

The statement continued: “We tried through our proposal to maintain and enhance the character of the street.

“The building preserves and references a lot of tenemental features without rejecting modern construction methods and materials.”

“The proposal features amenity space in the form of external green spaces, balconies and an external roof terrace as well as the requisite number of parking spaces.”
