A GOUROCK pub has been given permission for outside tables and benches at the front of its premises.

An application submitted to Inverclyde Council by the Cardwell Inn, Cardwell Road has been approved by officials.

There will be six tables with bench seating plus two benches with small tables. Pedestrian barriers will also be put up.

It is proposed that the area will be in use 11am to 9pm, Mondays to Saturdays and 12.30pm to 9pm on Sundays.

The pub was allowed to have outdoor seating during the pandemic lockdown when planning rules were relaxed, until the end of September 2022.

A statement by Nicholson McShane Architects included with the application explained: “During the 17 months of the use of the ground as outdoor seating under this planning relaxation, our client received no complaints from neighbouring proprietors and is unaware of any complaints to other bodies such as Inverclyde Council or the police.

“We and our client believe that this amply demonstrates that the proposal will not adversely affect the amenity of neighbouring residents.”
