CARDWELL Garden Centre near Gourock is hosting the annual Strathclyde Leek and Onion show this weekend.

It takes place between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday (1/2 October).

Along with a display of some of the country’s biggest vegetables, there will also be a family fun weekend with games like hoopla, hook-a-duck and feed-the-clown

It will also feature a barbecue, a DJ, bouncy castle, face-painting and a fairground carousel.

On Saturday the Clydeside Singers will be performing. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution will also have a stall. Entry is free.

Hundreds of entries from all over Scotland are expected for the horticultural event with some of the leeks on show up to three feet high.

Other vegetables will include carrots, potatoes, cauliflowers and beetroot.

Cardwell’s retail general manager Paul Carmichael said: “The giant vegetables are back! Folks will be amazed at the size of the veg on display.

“We’ve lots of fun activities and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone at Cardwell this weekend.”
